Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing

L’Oréal welcomes the announcement of the first action programme of the European Partnership on Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA) . On the 7th of November 2005, together with the Commission, 6 other companies and 7 industry sectors, we contributed to the creation of the EPAA.

L'Oréal supports the 21 key activities listed in the action programme and more specifically the development of research in areas of great complexity such as repeat dose systemic toxicity as well as the validation and acceptance of methods worldwide.

L’Oréal’s ultimate goal is to develop a range of approaches and methods that can be used to test ingredient safety and shared across a number of industry sectors; with the aim of accelerating the elimination of animal testing.

L’Oréal has been committed to the development of alternative approaches for more than twenty years and has already contributed to successful scientific validations together with ECVAM (European Centre for Validation of Alternative Methods). The recent acquisition of SkinEthic by L'Oréal's Group Episkin company is a further step towards making available reconstructed tissues to all partners interested in the promising future of this technology.
